Newsletter: Meet the DJs for our launch party

Plus, the Afrofuturism Lounge returns to Balboa Park and photos from Comic-Con.
Greetings everyone, buenas and bom dia,
I am so excited to share with you the names of the DJs for our launch party. Both are good friends of mine, and as a DJ in my off-hours, I admire them for their technical skills, music selection and ability to build a vibe.
So without further ado, the Daylight San Diego team is pleased to announce that our launch party will feature the sounds of Ohmega Watts and yo bee!, who will both be playing vinyl sets for your listening pleasure during our celebration.
Ohmega Watts hails from Brooklyn, New York, but he has made the San Diego region his home in recent years. With production and MCing chops on top of his DJ talents, he is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to musical knowledge and skill. Frequently performing at many of the vinyl listening locations around town including Part Time Lover and Sound by the Sea, Ohmega plays from the many genres that have influenced Hip Hop production over the years. I especially enjoy when he digs into his Brazilian crates.
yo bee! is a graduate of the Beat Junkie Institute of Sound and member of the Ladies of Sound collective, and she has the technical scratches to prove it. She is a regular at Sound By the Sea and Bluefoot and recently performed at Lou Lou's, the jazz lounge in the basement of the Lafayette Hotel. A lifelong dancer herself, bee will keep the dancefloor moving with tunes you didn't even know you needed in your life.
Our launch party is just two weeks away! Don't miss it. Reserve your spot today with our sliding scale tickets! I look forward to vibing with you all on Aug. 14 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Queen Bee's in North Park.

After the ICE arrests in Linda Vista
The three U.S. citizens whom ICE arrested in early July in Linda Vista had court hearings on Thursday, and one chose to speak publicly beforehand about the conditions they were held in overnight. Jeane Wong said officials made her believe she'd been disappeared, and she called for immigration officers to unmask and identify themselves.

An interactive and multimedia performance art festival in San Ysidro, “the land we carry,” showcased work by nonprofit Viet Voices’s AAPI Emerging Artist Fellowship on Saturday evening. Curator Hamsa Fae said they intended to create a container where Asian American and Pacific Islander artists can experiment without censorship or pressure from institutional powers, allowing the artists to say what they want to say in the ways they see fit.

Are new state regulations to lower prescription costs coming soon?
Ten months ago, California Gov. Gavin Newsom vetoed a bill that would have forced prescription drug middlemen to be licensed and regulated through a state agency. Now, Newsom appears to be working in concert with the legislator who wrote that bill to do just that — and push back on a business that critics say is significantly responsible for the state’s soaring drug costs.
