Daylight Launch Party

Daylight Launch Party

Join us for a night of music, food and community as we celebrate the launch of Daylight San Diego, our community-focused, nonprofit newsroom.

Over the past year, we’ve heard a common theme in our listening sessions: people are exhausted by the constant stream of negative headlines and disconnected from the stories that truly matter to them. That’s why we’re building something different.

At a time when trust in media is low and corporate outlets are pulling back on local coverage, Daylight San Diego offers a refreshing alternative — an independent, community-powered newsroom focused on amplifying the voices of those too often left out of traditional narratives. From Gen Z and Millennial changemakers to immigrants, caregivers, communities of color and San Diegans navigating a tough economy, we’re here to tell the stories that you care about. This isn’t just a party — it’s an investment in a new era of local journalism. One rooted in transparency, inclusion and collaboration. More than anything, it's an opportunity for us to celebrate YOU —  the community members and supporters who have entrusted us with your stories and believe in the power of storytelling to build a stronger, more connected San Diego.

Tickets are available now — and if you can’t attend in person, you can still support our mission by purchasing a Support From Afar ticket, or reach out to co-founder Lauren J. Mapp to become an event sponsor at lauren@daylightsandiego.org. The evening will include music, great food and the chance to win curated prizes through our silent auction and opportunity drawing. All proceeds will go toward our $50,000 campaign to fund Daylight’s early reporting and operations.

Save the date, bring a friend and help light the way forward. Together, we can tell the stories San Diegans need most.

Who We Are

Daylight San Diego is a nonprofit newsroom dedicated to serving younger and underserved communities with impactful, people-first journalism. We believe local news should be accessible, community-rooted and focused on solutions — not just problems.

Through deep listening, on-the-ground reporting and partnerships with local organizations, we’re illuminating the issues that matter most: housing, education, climate, equity, arts and more. We've already begun publishing stories that center people’s lived experiences — and this launch party marks the start of an even brighter future.
