Daylight San Diego welcomes Tonya Jackman Hampton to its board of directors
The award-winning executive, author and leadership consultant brings more than 30 years of experience across Fortune 500 companies, health care and nonprofit organizations to Daylight’s board.

Daylight San Diego is excited to welcome Tonya Jackman Hampton to its board of directors, bringing decades of leadership experience and a commitment to helping people feel seen, heard and valued.
Jackman Hampton is the founder and CEO of Sequel Consulting Group and the best-selling author of “The Myth of the Fearless Leader.” A nationally recognized speaker, consultant and certified executive coach, she has more than three decades of leadership experience spanning Fortune 500 companies and nonprofit organizations. She previously served as chief human resources officer at UC San Diego Health and chief people and culture officer at Hennepin Healthcare.
Originally from Minnesota, Jackman Hampton’s grandfather started the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder, the oldest Black-owned newspaper in the state, which is now led by her cousin Tracey Williams-Dillard. Now a San Diego resident, Jackman Hampton said Daylight’s approach to community-centered journalism resonated with her own values.
“Throughout my life, and through the legacy of my family, I’ve seen the difference it makes when people know their voices matter,” she said. “I believe strong communities are built when people feel seen, heard, informed and represented.”
She said joining Daylight’s board gives her an opportunity to give back to a community she has come to proudly call home.
“Daylight’s commitment to listening, elevating voices that have too often gone unheard and creating journalism with communities — not simply about them — deeply resonates with me,” she said. “I’m honored to contribute to its mission and to help strengthen the community.”
Jackman Hampton said she believes “life should include great conversations, great travel and a good run whenever possible.”
“One of my favorite places to run in San Diego is on the harbor or from my home, through Point Loma and Liberty Station and over the Nimitz Bridge,” she said. “I also am a firm believer that every human is fearfully wonderful, and I've shared this belief in my best-selling authored book ‘The Myth of the Fearless Leader: Exposing a Path Beyond Fight, Flight and Freeze.’”
