Collages, country music and grape stomping: What to do Sept. 3-9 in San Diego County

Workshops, festivals and community gatherings this week offer opportunities to make art outside, listen to live music and get involved in activism.

This week, San Diego has a workshop on making collages to celebrate multicultural identities, a networking night at Mid-City CAN featuring a conversation about ending girls’ incarceration and a summit led by the San Diego Black Worker Center at Southwestern College.
There are also a couple of festivals around the county, including the Cardiff Greek Festival, grape stomping in Julian, Boots by the Bay featuring country music songwriters and the kickoff to the Oceanside Plein Air Festival, an annual celebration inspiring creators to get outside to make art.

Imaginaries of Identity and Community: Casa Familiar is hosting a workshop where participants will explore their multicultural identities and their roles within the community through creating collages together. Ending Girls Incarceration Networking Night: Mid-City CAN is hosting a networking night featuring conversations about ending girls' incarceration. Justice in Sexual and Reproductive Health of People on the Move: A discussion of sexual and reproductive health justice for the migrant community will be hosted at Cervecería Insurgente in Tijuana as part of Miradas Fronterizas. Boots by the Bay Festival: A selection of country songwriters will perform during an evening music festival. Several of the artists have penned songs recorded by major country stars like Kenny Chesney, Dierks Bentley and Blake Shelton. Oceanside Plein Air Festival: The Oceanside Museum of Art hosts its third annual Oceanside Plein Air Festival with a week of paint outs, workshops and networking. Cardiff Greek Festival: Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church hosts its annual Cardiff Greek Festival on Saturday and Sunday. Peace Vigil for Palestine: CODEPINK San Diego, Palestine Pals and other local activism groups host a weekly peace vigil to advocate for peace in Gaza and beyond every Saturday in Ocean Beach. Julian Grape Stomp Festa: Julian hosts its 28th annual grape stomping festival where attendees have the opportunity to squish grapes with their feet while tasting wines from the region.
