After waiting for more than 10 months, I finally received some records from the mayor's office of reports from San Diego police about when its officers showed up at situations involving federal immigration officials.

In the meantime, City Councilmember Sean Elo-Rivera is calling on the department to be more transparent and release information publicly about these interactions.

It's difficult to tell from the records I've received so far if the police department is reporting about all of the instances that it should. To do that, I need your help.

I've made a reporting form to track when you see San Diego police show up to a federal immigration operation. Together, we can build a database to fact-check reports from police in the pursuit of greater accountability and transparency.

Share the form with your friends, and please reach out to kate@daylightsandiego.org if you have any questions, concerns or other feedback.

Targeting voters

The Trump administration is demanding that almost every California county review its claims that noncitizens are registered to vote. Some of the information appears outdated, officials say.

Beyond the Border

Two people died in Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s custody at detention facilities in San Diego and Georgia, prompting investigations and renewed concerns about detention conditions. Meanwhile, U.S. citizenship approvals dropped 72% during the first eight months of 2026, leaving hundreds of thousands of applicants in limbo ahead of the November midterm elections. A federal appeals court also ruled that immigrants who entered the country without permission do not have a constitutional right to bond hearings, allowing the Trump administration to continue detaining them during deportation proceedings. Here's what happened last week in immigration news.
