Tonight is the night! We hope to see you for “A Light on Mental Health and Burnout,” our free, community conversation at San Diego Made Factory from 6 to 8 p.m.

Why are we talking about burnout? We've heard from many of you that navigating burnout is limiting your ability to thrive at work, at home or in community.

In a society that teaches us that value comes from productivity, it can be difficult to let go of the need to be always producing something. In a moment when volunteering and mutual aid work feels so urgent because of what's at stake for the people needing help, it can be hard to take time to rest. In an information ecosystem where negative news is hitting your feeds constantly, it can be tempting to disengage completely for peace of mind even if you want to be involved.

How do we find balance? How do we support each other in getting there? These are some of the questions that we hope to navigate together this evening.

We'll start with a sound bath meditation hosted by Arielle Cook. Then we'll hear from our panelists Jessica Denise Dickson, Latoya Mckelvin-Westpoint, Nancy Phung-Smith and Olivia Steadman-Oladipo. You can learn more about them on our event page. We'll wrap up the event with a group activity to discuss and process together.

It's free to attend, but we recommend RSVPing to ensure that you have a seat.

We're also excited to announce that Valkyrie Yoga generously donated four 5-class packs for our community. Their classes include yoga and breathwork — two practices that can help people slow down, reconnect and care for their well-being.

Want a chance to win? Become a paid Daylight member today and attend the event, and you'll receive a free opportunity drawing ticket. See you tonight!

LGBTQ+ youth mental health is suffering

San Diego County LGBTQ+ youth were in dire need of a new kind of mental health support in the early 2000s. What community leaders saw then is that many LGBTQ+ youth didn’t feel affirmed and loved, and a lack of support systems continues to impact their mental health today amid political actions aimed at rolling back civil rights.

Mormon temple open house

The San Diego California Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, an iconic landmark right off of Interstate 5 and long-time mystery to many San Diegans, is open to the public until July 11. Commonly known as the Mormon temple, it’s been over 30 years since community members have been allowed inside. The open house is a rare opportunity to visit the sacred space, and it has garnered the attention of tens of thousands of visitors.
